Specialized Driving and Adaptive Equipment
Following a comprehensive driving evaluation, training may be recommended prior to returning to driving. These training needs may be related to learning to use adaptive equipment for the driving task, cognitive or emotional strategies for safe independent driving, or modification of driving routine.
Terri Cassidy graduated from Colorado State University with a Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 2001. She has worked for Penrose St. Francis Health System since that time. Terri has worked primarily on the acute rehabilitation unit with an emphasis on treatment of clients with neurological disorders. She received her Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) certification in 2005. She has also specialized in the treatment of visual problems caused by neurological disorders. In 2003, she helped to start the Inpatient Vision Clinic in which the occupational therapists collaborate with the neuro-optometrist to assist clients on the rehab unit. She recently expanded this program to the Outpatient Department at Penrose Hospital. Motivated by the need in the community and her desire to help clients to achieve maximal function, Terri worked to bring a Driving Rehabilitation Program to Penrose Hospital in 2011. She is currently working in the Outpatient Department with the vision program and the driving program and is working toward obtaining her certification as a Driving Rehabilitation Specialist.
