Because persons with physical disability are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, and because diabetes is the cause of about 50% of non-traumatic amputations in the US, there is a close relationship between diabetes and disability. Dr. Robert Pendergrast joins the show to discuss foods and food choices that help prevent diabetes and also help prevent its complications in those already dealing with diabetes.
Dr. Robert Pendergrast, M.D., MPH is a native of Atlanta, GA. He attended Furman University where he received a BA in Music. Dr. Pendergrast Graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 1983 and did his pediatrics residency and Fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, MS. He also attended graduate school at Johns Hopkins University. His book Breast Cancer: Reduce Your Risk with Foods You Love was a Finalist in the Indie Excellence National Book Awards competition in 2011. He blogs and publishes an e-zine at Holistic Medicine MD.com.
