Vision Abnormalities Caused by Stroke and Brain Injury
Optometrist, Dr. Thomas Wilson joins the show to discuss the visual rehabilitation of a patient who suffers from stroke and head injury. These visual problems could include double vision, loss of peripheral vision, vision and balance problems, reading difficulties (focusing and tracking) and visual perceptual disorders. He will discuss various exercises and treatment options available for these patients.
Dr. Wilson has been practicing optometry since 1987 and has a special interest in sports vision and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. Dr. Wilson received his Doctor of Optometry from the Pacific University College of Optometry and was awarded his Fellowship in Binocular Vision in 1992. Dr. Wilson has served on numerous committees and currently is on the board of a scholarship foundation for college bound low vision individuals. Dr. Wilson is on staff at Penrose Hostpital where he treats the visual problems of stroke and head injury patients. He has done extensive research with the Air Force Academy athletic department, working with teams in several sports. He recently co-authored a book entitled Sports Vision For Better Performance, a text designed to improve athletes' visual abilities. Dr. Wilson is married and has three children.
