Show: Ask Dr. DeSilva
Mike Tringale and Dr. Linda Dahl
Spring Allergies
Cough. Sneeze. Wheeze. You know the symptoms, but do you really know the cause? The similarities between symptoms of the flu/cold and nasal allergies can cause confusion. Worse, it can cause you to make the wrong diagnosis and treat with the wrong medications. And, if allergies are left untreated, it can cause more serious conditions like sinusitis or ear infections.
Vice President of external affairs for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Mike Tringale and Dr. Linda Dahl join the show to help us learn the difference between col/flu and allergies and how they should be properly treated once diagnosed.
Mike Tringale is Vice President of External Affairs for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA),a consumer and patient advocacy organization serving the asthma and allergy community in the U.S. – more than 60 million adults and children. In addition to communications and fundraising, Mike is responsible for the Foundation’s print and online health publications, including FreshAAIR™ and BReATHE™. He has written and edited articles for consumer health magazines such as Health Monitor, Coping Magazine and Asthma Magazine, as well as for medical periodicals such as Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Allergy and Asthma Proceedings and Academy News, the publication of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. Mike is not just a patient advocate – he is a patient himself, with nasal allergies and food allergies. Dr. Linda Dahl is a board certified otolaryngologist and surgeon specializing in the evaluation and treatment of adult and pediatric patients. She received her medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed her residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Following residency in 2003, she joined a group practice which specialized in pediatric ENT. She gained experience with both children and adults through her extensive partnership with them. Three and a half years later she formed her own practice on the upper east side, focusing on a pro-patient approach with the highest standard of comprehensive care.
