Dr. William Walker joins the show to discuss the importance of educating the public about a fairly common developmental birth defect, called Spina Bifida.
Dr. William Walker has over 25 years experience caring for individuals across the spectrum of developmental disabilities throughout their lifespan. He is the Chief, Division of Developmental Medicine, Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) and Director, Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Fellowship, University of Washington. Dr. Walker’s clinical experience includes activities within both medically and educationally based programs as a clinician, administrator and researcher. His particular research interest is the functional impact of neural tube defects (Spina Bifida) as well as the medical complications of this disorder. His research includes the evaluation of technology use, quality of life and continence as well as employment success utilizing the ICF framework in this patient population. Dr. Walker is Chair of the Spina Bifida Association’s Professional Advisory Council and serves on its Board of Directors.
