Dr. Dawn Kleindorfer joins the show to discuss a new survey that reveals that a good majority of women have limited knowledge of the symptoms and signs of a stroke. She will also help educate us as to those warning signs.

Dawn Kleindorfer, MD, is an Associate Professor and Vascular Neurology Division Director in the Department of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati. She completed her medical degree at Washington University in St. Louis, and her neurology residency training at the University of Michigan where she was named chief resident. She then completed her fellowship in vascular neurology at the University of Cincinnati, where she has since stayed on as clinical research faculty. In her faculty position, she is active in the clinical care of stroke patients, teaching of students, residents and fellows as the vascular neurology fellowship director, and clinical research. Her research interests include health disparities in stroke with regards to race, socioeconomic status and gender, epidemiology and public awareness of stroke, stroke prevention clinical trials, and acute stroke care treatment utilization. She has been awarded several clinical research grant awards, including the Hazel K. Goddess Stroke Research for Women Scholarship for an innovative project to educate African American women, the “Beautyshop Project”, as well as awards from the National Institutes of Health, the National Stroke Association, and the Centers for Disease Control. She is an author on 59 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 abstract presentations to national scientific conferences.
