November is Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetes is a serious disease that can lead to such potential complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, and amputation. Dr. Kris Iyler from Hoag Hospital joins the show to discuss diabetes awareness and ways you can prevent you or your loved ones from getting this life-threatening disease.
Kris V. Iyer, M.D. graduated in Medicine and Surgery from University of Bombay. Having completed residency in Internal Medicine and Neurology in India he obtained a doctorate in Medicine. He then went to England and trained further in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. He developed his interest in diabetes during his training in England. In addition to being a family practitioner in England, he worked in a diabetes clinic with a large patient population at the local hospital in Stevenage, England. Dr. Iyer served as the voluntary medical advisor to the Hoag Diabetes Education Program for many years. He was appointed medical director of the Mary and Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag Hospital in July of 2007.
