Topic
Fevers
Topic Info
A fever in a child can be worrying to parents, and is one of the most common reasons parents seek a pediatrician’s care. To help pediatricians educate parents and families about fever and “fever phobia,” the American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a clinical report, “Fever and Antipyretic Use in Children,” published in the March 2011 print issue of Pediatrics (published online Feb. 28)

Janice E. Sullivan, M.D, the author of the report “Fever and Antipyretic Use in Children" comes on the show to discuss fever - including fever phobia, how to use fever-reducing medicines correctly, whether "combination therapy" (alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen) is wise, how to be sure you're giving an accurate dose, why you shouldn't use cough and cold medicines that contain fever reducers, and other advice for parents.
