Show: Ask Dr. DeSilva
Alan R. Fleischman, M.D.
Women's Health and Pregnancy
There are approximately six million pregnancies a year throughout the United States. And one thing that every pregnant woman needs is information. However, a new survey reveals that a majority of new and expectant moms have not discussed preterm birth with their healthcare provider, despite the fact that more than half a million babies each year are born preterm. In addition to preterm birth, there are a number of things every pregnant woman needs to know.
Dr. Alan Fleischman, medical director of March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health joins the show to discuss the most important questions pregnant women need to ask their doctors.
Alan R. Fleischman, M.D. is Senior Vice President and Medical Director of the March of Dimes Foundation. He is also Chair of the Federal Advisory Committee to the National Children’s Study at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NIH, and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. The new survey, titled SPEAKing (Survey on Perceptions, Experiences, Assessment and Knowledge) About Preterm Birth and conducted by March of Dimes and Baby Center and sponsored by Ther-Rx Corporation.
