ACEP has just kicked off their “Just 2%” campaign. Emergency care accounts for only 2 percent of the nation’s health care dollars annualy, and many lawmakers believe that it is the most expensive type of medical care...nothing is further from the truth! Trying to keep people out of the ER will not save health care dollars, not to mention is very dangerous. Dr. Andy Bern, an ACEP board member joins the show to talk about this campaign and reveal some important new polling data.

Dr. Andy Bern, of Coral Springs, Florida is an attending physician at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach. He was elected to ACEP’s Board of Directors in 2007. Over the course of his 29-year membership with ACEP, Dr. Bern has served as a councilor, alternate councilor and member of the steering committee in ACEP's council. He has also served the Florida chapter of ACEP as board member, committee chair and treasurer. He has chaired or been a member of national committees in six critical areas including finance, membership, education, communications, advocacy and leadership. He is the founder of the disaster medicine section and spearheaded the initiatives that established membership sections and the college grant center program. He has written and lectured extensively on disaster topics. Dr. Bern earned his medical degree at State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He completed his emergency medicine residency at the Affiliated Hospitals of the University of Louisville, Ky., and internal medicine residency at State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center.
