Patricia Stephens
Fibromyalgiaand Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Patricia Stephens, author of the book Reversing Chronic Disease, comes on the show to present her fresh, unconventional ideas to improve health and stop chronic symptoms, including some new options that most doctors don't tell you about that can improve or reverse chronic disease.
Almost to the day of her 40th birthday, Patricia Stephens suddenly became ill. This active mom (of two equally active boys), worked as a teacher until she eventually became completely disabled. Unrelenting back, neck and jaw pain made her life almost unbearable. She underwent three operations to stop the pain, including surgery to restructure her upper and lower jaws, but it didn’t help, so she ate soft foods for seven years. She had significant brain fog to the point that she could not remember lessons she had taught for more than 20 years and she could not sleep without medication. Even though she had been very high energy the first 40 years of her life, Stephens reached a point where she could hardly walk across the room. It took seven years to finally receive the diagnosis of fibromyalgia and even then, the medications she took barely helped and had horrible side effects. “Questions kept coming to my mind such as, ‘What have the doctors missed?’ or ‘What is out of balance in my body?’ I was ready to start looking outside the box,” says Stephens. “If I was going to get well, I was going to have to step up and become my own advocate. No one was more interested in my case than I was. Also, researching was a therapeutic way for me to deal with the misery.” Over time, Stephens replaced her conventional medications with natural therapies. Since regaining her health, Stephens’ passion has been to help others reclaim theirs. She became a certified nutritional consultant and has been working at a natural pharmacy called The Medicine Man for more than 11 years. The lessons she learned from her own journey, research and work with clients inspired her book, Reversing Chronic Disease: A Journey Back to Health. Stephens earned a BS from the University of Alabama and became a Certified Nutritional Consultant through the American Association of Nutritional Consultants. She taught commercial food preparation in high school for 22 years before becoming ill. Mother to two grown sons, Stephens lives in Thomasville, Georgia with her husband of 41 years.
