April is Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Awareness Month. While STD's are often not true medical emergencies they are frequently seen in the ER. We will discuss commonly seen STDs such as Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, HIV and HPV. We will discuss their health implications and how we as emergency physicians test and treat patients, as well as how to prevent them.

Dr Kurtland Ma is a third year Emergency Medicine Resident at the Jacobi-Montefiore Hospitals Residency Program in the Bronx, NY. He trains at the busiest Level 1 Trauma center in NYC and the second busiest emergency department in the country. He graduated with Honors and Distinction from Yale College and then from Yale School of Medicine. He has lived and worked abroad in Spain and China. His interests include ultrasound, international medicine, and high risk behaviors.
