About 79,000 people die annually as a direct result of excessive alcohol use. Dr. Rita Cydulka is vice-chair and professor of the Department of Emergency Medicine at MetroHealth Medical at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She served as the founding residency director at the Case Western Reserve University/ MetroHealth Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic program in emergency medicine from its inception until 1999. Dr. Cydulka is an active contributor to the scientific literature, with over 100 publications in peer review journals and textbooks. Her research interests include emergency treatment of respiratory diseases and health care outcomes. She is on the editorial board for Annals of Emergency Medicine, co-editor of Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine, Emergency Manual and Just the Facts, and past editor of the Yearbook of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Cydulka served as president of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, chair of the Test Development Committee of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and editor of the Life Long Learning Self Assessment exam in emergency medicine. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Cydulka is proud to be a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a member of ACEP’s Spokespersons’ Network.
